Parents fear their kids will end up followers of the “Wrong Crowd”.  Life Skill uses martial arts as a vehicle to guide your children on a journey to become Leaders.
As parents, most of us want to feel like we’ve done everything we can to help our kids develop the skills needed to make it on their own. At Life Skill Martial Arts, we help you guide your child through an educational program that took us over three decades to develop. So, how does a fun martial art workout help them develop better intellectual, social and emotional skills?
Let’s take a look…
We all know that exercise increases the flow of blood to the brain, which delivers oxygen and glucose to power the brain. With more energy, the brain is able to focus better, which makes it easier for children to learn. Even more so for children with learning disabilities or attention deficit disorders. There are studies that prove physical fitness exercise paired with learning life skills can increase children’s ability to learn and retain information.
The Life Skill Curriculum has been formulated by combining the most advanced educational methods with the focus and discipline of traditional martial arts. For over 30 years this program has helped thousands of children in Massachusetts. Over the years, some of our students have had learning disabilities and were able to improve their focus, concentration and even socialization. Others have had physical disabilities and were able to increase physical range of motion through the training. The have been some who became academic scholars by increasing their scholastic excellence with the added engagement of martial arts in their lives.
We’ve had so many parents walk into our facility telling us they need some help because their child is shy and lack confidence. The truth is…Kids copy. They copy what any adult does. They are watching their parents every move, every day. They’re copying what we do, how we do it, and what we say. So, if the parent is shy, the child will end up shy. But, there is hope, because this copying can be leveraged in a good way.
At Life Skill we’ve established a culture that is structured, respectful and confident. The moment a child walks into our program, they’re guided by leaders that exude confidence by showing Respect to Themselves by standing up straight, and talking with a clear voice. Your child will start to copy these habits that all of our instructors exhibit as they begin to feel more confident in their abilities.

From there, children will learn acts of respect for others, specifically parents and teachers. The first Life Skill in our academy is Respect and we show it by bowing at the front door and saying Hello Sir, hello Ma’am”. Students also say “yes, please” and “no Sir/Ma’am” which are invaluable habits throughout their life.
You will notice quickly that your child will start to use polite language, develop respectful body language, and start to make more eye contact while speaking in a clear tone. You’ll see how far they have come, and you will become even more proud of them as they are guided on the road of personal development!
Our classes encourage parents to get engaged by coming onto the training floor. Parents can tie their child’s belt and hold targets for them to hit. Sadly, there is a growing disconnect between children and their parents. Life Skill instructors pursue the goal of becoming a catalyst that brings family members together. So, it’s an important part of the Life Skill culture to get more parents involved with their child’s development and become closer than ever before.
